Almost Perfect, But Not Quite

The house yesterday wasn't quite perfect... but it's as close as I think I'll find without designing it myself. The only two problems that Josh and I could see:

1. The kitchen island, which has the stovetop, is kind of far from the refrigerator. I understand why they put it where they did; it's even with the bar that looks into the great room, and it's directly across from the ovens. But it makes the kitchen look kind of unbalanced. However, this is definitely not something that would prevent me from living in this house. We could put a butcher block or something on the side of the island, and I think it would make it look more balanced.

2. There's a lot of settling going on in the (giant) crown molding and baseboards, and a couple cracks in the drywall. In a two-year-old house that's a little surprising; however, the family who lives there now has been there less than a year and the listing agent has forwarded us the inspection from when they bought it, which states that there are no structural problems. It could also have to do with the fact that they're building another house right next door or that it's winter and wood shrinks in the cold. Either way, it's a simple aesthetic problem with an easy fix.

Here are some pictures I stole off the listing. In the first one, you can see how far the island is from the camera, which is right next to the fridge. Weird, but not a deal-breaker.

And speaking of deal-breakers, there's only one potential - They have a cat. My husband is undeniably, horrendously allergic to cats. Yikes. The seller says it's a relatively recent addition, so we might be able to go with it, but I have a feeling we might be spending some money on cleaning out the ducts.

HOWEVER. Ahem. I need to get myself in check, because Husband hasn't even seen the house yet. Also, we haven't sold our townhouse, which makes all of this one giant fantasy. Oy. We have another appointment to see the house tomorrow at 12:30... I hope he likes it.

  1. It looks very pretty! I agree that's kind of weird about the stovetop, but at least its close to the oven. I think that would bother me more.

  3. Wow! Beautiful. I think that kitchen may be bigger than our condo.
